"Pastures from Space" website

The Pastures from Space program provides estimates of pasture production during the growing season via remote sensing. Satellite data is used to accurately and quantitatively estimate pasture biomass or "feed on offer" or, combined with climate and soil data, is used to produce pasture growth rate estimates.

Program partners include CSIRO Livestock Industries and the WA Departments of Agriculture and Land Information.

Extension services

Rural Solutions SA offers a comprehensive range of services in pasture management including:

  • Grazing management for specific pasture species, i.e perennial ryegrass, lucerne, clovers and medics, annual grasses, cocksfoot and phalaris
  • Advise on how to maximise pasture utilisation.
  • Design of feed budgets and how it relates to animal nutrition to maximise the most out of your animals.
  • Soil nutrition and how it relates to pasture growth and animal nutrition
  • Rural Solutions SA provides producers technical information and skills through Prograze, Top Fodder and Nutrient management courses, for which Rural Solutions SA through Tim Prance is a contact for course information and coordination. Farm walks are incorporated in to workshops for practical on ground learning.
